How do you replace cane binding on wicker chairs?
The cane binding on the legs needs to be replaced and I have't a clue what to do. All I know is that I have to soak the binding in warm water before I use it.

the DIY network has a good page on repairing wicker that you might find useful. There are many other sites that can be found by typing repairing wicker into google or other search engine.

Supplies for the "binding" you are asking about, is available through Van Dyke Restorers. They offer booklets on how to repair wicker, rattan, and cained furniture. They also have tools normally used to apply the binding material. Most reed type materials require soaking in warm water mixed with glycerene, available at most drug stores, VanDykes also offers the glycerene, it helps to make the wet binding strips supple, letting it bend without breaking. after wrapping, weaving, and or binding the material to your piece of furniture, attempt to tuck the loose end back up under the last wrapping of the material, you may have to put a drop of glue on the end of the strip to hold it in place. Allow the newly repaired area to dry over night, then either seal it with sanding sealer, and clear finish, or paint it to match your chair.
